September in the Pocket Park

At the September Work Party, a cheerful group of 8 adults and 4 children gathered by the pond to trim the overhanging branches and tidy up around the seats. Jackie also brushed the steps leading to Hilbery Rise. The Conservation volunteers from Bedford are making slow but steady progress with the path work. We now have a brand-new dog bin by the pond, back in its original position. James Mcadie from the Wildlife Charity ‘Froglife’ is currently negotiating with the Council to carry out some restoration work on the marsh. Latest Sightings – a little egret was spotted by the Pond Dipping platform and last Monday the kingfisher had a narrow escape when it was chased out of the willow by the pond by a sparrow hawk.

Don’t miss our final Work Party of the year on Saturday 7th October 2-4pm meeting by the pond, when we will be continuing to uncover the paving by the seats, weed the primrose bank, clear a log jam in the stream behind the pond as well as clearing rubbish. Hope to see you there.
