Pond dipping with Froglife

Pond dipping with Froglife on Saturday 5 August… We feared the worst at 1pm when we had a hail storm, but by 2 the skies had cleared and we had a gloriously sunny afternoon. 11 children and 16 adults weren’t put off by the weather and, remembering the success of last time by the bridge, James Mcadie from the Wildlife Charity Froglife helped the children find many dragonfly nymphs, as well as pond skaters, hoglice and other mini beasts. The Co-op kindly donated the refreshments at their stall manned by Michelle and Zoe. James is still hopeful to find funding to come back with their digger and dredge part of the marsh in the autumn. Gallery below….

All welcome to our next Work Party when we will be meeting by the pond to clear up around the seats, weed the primrose bank, brush down the steps and prune some overhanging branches.

Pond Dipping Last Saturday

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We had a cool but dry afternoon and 14 enthusiastic children keen to find out what was lurking in the pond.

The best area seemed to be by the bridge to the right of the pond and the most exciting finds were a great diving beetle and a dragonfly larvae as well as pond skaters, water boatmen, water lice and leeches etc.

Many thanks to everyone who helped and enjoy the pictures…
